Course description

Have the deer completely ravaged your garden? Do they seem to eat everything you plant? Have you given up all hope of ever having a garden that is attractive let alone one you can be proud of?

I understand; and I can help.

As a professional designer and passionate gardener I refused to be thwarted by the daily visits, taste-testing, trampling, and rutting of my local herds. Like you, I was frustrated by the lack of inspirational resources to help me create the beautiful garden of my dreams. Lists of deer-resistant plants weren't enough. They didn't translate to billowing borders or rich tapestries. At best they just gave me a shopping list for someone on a restricted diet. Yet a well designed, deer-resistant garden should be so much more.

Hallmarks of a well designed deer-resistant garden

  • Carefully crafted, functional hardscape to instill a sense of order
  • Richly textured layers of foliage and flowers offering year-round interest
  • A cohesive color palette
  • Exciting plant combinations - with a few surprises to add mystery and intrigue
  • Bold, fully deer-proof focal points
  • No obvious "oops" areas!

Is that how your garden looks?

If not, don't worry. We're going to change all that.

In this online workshop you'll learn to:

  • Strategize

Discover deer-deterrent and diversion tactics such as barriers, sprays, and seasonal protection, without resorting to ugly fencing.

  • Design for Success

Good garden design is more important than ever when dealing with deer. Discover 8 key design principles that will ensure your garden looks good year round, despite the deer.

  • Combine Plants Effectively

Forget individual plant lists - this course will inspire you with dozens of innovative, deer-resistant plant combinations.

“I thoroughly enjoyed learning about ways to design a deer-resistant garden. This course goes far beyond a plant list and teaches you how to truly DESIGN a deer-resistant garden. Karen shows you how to combine design elements along with deer-resistant plants to protect areas, re-route deer, or simply discourage them from eating their way through your garden. She explains key design principles such as how to combine 3 plants together for a perfect vignette, how to create garden windows, and more -- tips that can be used anywhere, and by anyone, whether you’re concerned with deer or not. The course is broken down into well-managed sections and moves along at a great pace. And the best part is the beautiful scenery of her incredible garden! A truly enjoyable and informational course! ”
